The Sierra Nevada Red Fox(Vulpes Vulpes necator) got it's name simply because it's a red fox that lives in the Sierra Nevada. Vulpes Vulpesnecator means common fox having red fur. The red fox consists of three phases of fur coats. It's winter coat has soft reddish and orange fur, covering it's body and a thick white stripe on the stomach from the chin to the tail. The summer phase turns the fur into a dark black everywhere on it's body. The spring phase is a cross between both the summer and the winter phase. It has pointy ears with a tail as long as it's body. Males weigh from 4.0kg to 4.3 kg and females weigh from 3.3 to 3.5. They have a muzzled pointed nose and a thick fluffy tail. Kits, the name for red fox babies, look a lot similar to domestic puppies.
